'REVIVAL OF BLOG' ENTRY
I've not blogged for around 2 - 3 months, so... I guessed it's time to update every reader of my blog, right? Although there isn't alot of readers, anyway... let's get started.
So far... I have been working from 2nd of April til now, everything is getting fine... except the very recent thing which happen a few days back.
26th April, Sunday
I need to rush my work for tomorrow's meeting. Initially, I wanted to take leave because I got a very early dental appointment at 8am and coincidentally, Zen's birthday is also on the 27th. So might as well enjoy my day, right? But, thing won't just go my way, so in the end i have to work on 27th. I rushed the work through the night and didn't even get to sleep.
27th April, Monday
I left house at 8.10am and was late for my dental appoint, luckily I didn't have to wait long. Rushed to clementi to meet my boss and we went to West Coast area for meeting. The meeting didn't went well as what I design didn't turn out to be what the customer wants. I also didn't like my work, but I just don't have much experience in signage design. Fortunately, the interior of the restaurant, we manage to show what the customer wanted.
We went back to office and my work is criticised by my boss. hai... Just let him say all he wants. I know that's not my standard of work, it's just that there isn't someone to guide me. I was very shag that day and thought of reporting sick, but I know it's my project, so I ought to stay and help. All of us work til 12.30am, and I missed Zen's birthday celebrated. I was quite depressed over it, caused we planned everything already and things don't work out as we planned. But I'm glad that Zen like my drawing and the card we prepared for him. Thanks to Kristin for all his surprises. (of course, because she is his... Good Friend... *hint- look at the alphabets in caps for the real meaning... erm hm.. ) ANYWAY... that's not the end of my hell week...
28th April, Tuesday
Arrived office at 10am, printed out everything we have done and compiled everything. The overall final work looks nice. I'm really glad. We went to meet the customer again. This time, it ends up quite well, just that we need to prepare the quotation. I was assigned to it, because it's my project in the first place. But, for quotation, I ain't experienced enough, and when I went back to office, I still have other things to do as well... that's not the only project on hand. Some of the other small projects' deadline are the next day, and I need to get to the customer for approval before sending them to print or cut out, and walk-in customers are also handled by me mostly, the only problem that I faced is the quoting the price. We have 3 designers that day, but I'm handling the walk-in customers, the supervisor, ricky got 3 urgent projects on hand, the other designer, andy, is also very new, and he is from the other branch, so he is unfamiliar with our side I understand. So I need to multi-task like a super useful machine or something, but my condition that day is extremely bad.
So, in the end, I landed up in hot soup again. The boss came back, the quotation not ready yet. I get the blame, and no point explaining because he won't really see it too. I will explain in the later part. So I have to work til 11pm before I went off. I phoned my shi mei, Kristin, and she can hear that I'm really very tired.
29th April, Wednesday (off day)
I can't get up at 10am to brief my colleague about my work, and I received a call from Ricky. Brief my colleague, htoo htoo (pronounced as tu-tu, myanmar super nice guy, he is leaving soon) to help me. Boss called me up and I get the shit again. Same problem, the quotation. Went through the conference call with Boss and Ricky. In the end, I was reprimanded by my boss again. Said I wasn't responsible enough and stuff. hai... bad day to start with.
Explaining the details.
My boss, Jong, expects everyone to be multi-functional in wide aspects and to be able to work long hours, efficient and overtime, even come back on off days or leave if there is a need. Pay isn't very high in the first place for me, and I certainly don't mind working OT, it's just that I found out that OT only starts 45minutes after the knock-off time and the OT rate is 1x and not 1.5x.
And on public holiday and sunday, the PA and HR and Accounts ladies don't work. and designers have to know how to use the cashier and also should have the knowledge of backroom office. and when rushing big project, after designers have designed and cut out the stuff, we need to help the installers with the production side of the job to hasten the process of the job, if we have nothing on hand. I'm beginning to understand how this company works.
1st, the boss will still continue to take in project, irregardless of the manpower shortage.
2nd, designers need to be able to multi-task and have multi-function, with just the same pay. If you are slow or can't finish all the jobs, you are inefficient.
3rd, even though you have urgent projects on hand, you still need to serve the customers, and if you can't finished your project on time, it's your fault.
I'm not whining. This is the truth. I can say that I'm a very responsible and hardworking guy. If I get the ropes of everything, I will work like mad. I'm a super workaholic, trust me. Now that 1 designer is leaving, it means every alternate Sunday I may have to work... and alone, as the only designer and cashier. good luck to me.
If I can endure through this 1 year, please congratulate me that my endurance level has already reached the capacity of human's maximum limit. If the pay doesn't rise at all... I think I can only last for 6months I guess. But, by the time, I will get the hang of it perhaps, or master the ropes of this field, and I may consider joining my friend's company as a visual merchandiser. =)
